Born 1968, Selangor, Voon Kim Cheong paints stunning and energetic abstract and semi-abstracts portraying cultural elements in vivid colours. After graduating from Saito Academy in 1992, he sought further training as a fine art artist while working as an illustrator, designer and painter. Today, he has found and established his own unique style as an artist.

Voon is always fascinated by the sights and sounds of Malaysia’s traditional dances and music, especially the vigorous movements of the drummers and dancers. He treats the round-shaped drums as symbols for the sun and the moon. His popular series, namely the ‘Performer Series’, ‘Drum Series’, ‘Gasing Series’ and ‘Wau Series’ have captured the flow of music and movements with tremendous energy and aesthetic beauty.
